Programme outline

You start your journey by taking a comprehensive view of the subject matter. In years 1 and 2, you will learn the basics and develop skills such as communicating, organising and innovating. You travel abroad, first, by taking a study trip organised by fellow students and in the second year you organise your own study trip.  From year 3, you choose your own study path: specialise in culture or hospitality, gain experience at an international work placement, or broaden your horizons. This is how you determine your future in tourism.

    You will work in groups on real assignments from clients, giving you hands-on experience.
  • Theory
    In interactive lectures and workshops, you will learn key theories and skills from experienced professionals in the field.
  • Work placements
    During work placements, you will put your knowledge into practice and discover different roles within the sector.

Year 1 - Orientation

This is what you'll do in the first year

  • You will learn how to explore developments in the tourism sector.
  • You will discover how to develop and market tourism products.
  • You participate in study trips, excursions and visits to (international) companies.
  • You attend lectures by experienced (guest) lecturers from the business world
  • Together with fellow students, you will develop creative solutions to issues faced by various organisations. All this under the guidance of your learning coach.

Year 2 - Orientation

This is what you'll do in the second year

  • You participate in study trips, excursions and visits to (international) companies.
  • You are encouraged to explore all aspects of managing a tourism organisation. In theory and practice.
  • You discover the role of a manager in this industry, learn new management skills and find out how they suit you.
  • You develop and create a tourism product or service by completing the entire journey: from a creative concept to a tangible final product.
  • Together with fellow students, you develop solutions to real-world challenges—this time, tackling more complex problems than in your first year.

Year 3 and 4 - Guide your future

This is what you'll do in years 3 and 4 

In the third and fourth years of Tourism Management, you largely decide what your programme looks like. Each academic year consists of two semesters, in which you choose what suits you best. Whether you stay at Inholland, take a minor at another university of applied sciences or go abroad for a semester, the choice is yours! 

Electives
With a minor, you choose to deepen or broaden your knowledge in tourism, with real-life challenges and practical projects.

Work placement with an inspiring company
During your work placement, you get a taste of the job market. This can serve you well when you start looking for a job after your studies.

Examples of work placement include:

  • Working in the marketing department of travel company TUI, where you will work on social media content for various target audiences.
  • Coming up with and collaborating on ways to keep Amsterdam attractive for both visitors and residents at amsterdam&partners.
  • Participating in the planning and organisation of fun events at organisation agency Uitjes & Eten.
  • Helping devise and develop new travel products for sustainable tour operator Better Places.

Choose your graduation project
The graduation project is your chance to show what you have learned. You decide the structure this project will take.

Study Coaching

We believe it is crucial that you feel at home at Inholland as quickly as possible. It's important to understand how the programme is structured and how to study effectively. Our learning coaches will help you on your way. With the support of these coaches, you will work on your personal and professional development. You will also discuss your study progress with your learning coach. Our student counsellors are there to help with any specific learning difficulties you want to address.

Study or work placement abroad

If you wish, you can complete a part of your studies at parter institutions within Europe or other parts of the world. You can also do work placements abroad. Studying abroad broadens your outlook and provides valuable experiences that contribute to your personal and professional development. Naturally, you won’t have to undertake this adventure on your own: you’ll have plenty of guidance from Inholland University of Applied Sciences. Any credits earned will count towards your degree when you return to the Netherlands. And your experiences? Those will stay with you for life.
