Student engagement in higher education: an employee’s perspective

Based on 19 semi-structured interviews with employees spread across the domains, it was recorded what they mean by student engagement, what they undertake and what (im)possibilities they see. This factsheet shows that the terms that were used included involvement, bonding and intrinsic motivation. The four types of engagement that can be distinguished in the literature are also listed. In addition, an overview of activities to influence involvement, tips to increase engagement and what challenges are involved.
