Working in the aircraft and space industry is challenging. Aircraft design is very complex and offers plenty of scope for an engineer to use his creativity. Examples of possible jobs are:

• Lead engineer
  You coordinate projects in the field of engineering. You lead a team of engineers and answer questions concerning technical problems. You are also a designer, using specialised drawing programmes. As a lead engineer, you are regularly in contact with customers and the project manager.

• Structural engineer
  As a structural engineer you analyse, design and plan components and systems to create a certain design, and you ensure the safety and comfort of users. You are responsible for engineering the design and analysis of a component. You often specialise in specific fields, such as bridge engineering, pipeline engineering and aircraft.

• Flight test engineer
  You are responsible for monitoring and controlling different aircraft systems, including airplanes, helicopters and space flights. You will work closely with the pilots during all different stages of flight. You make sure the weight and balance of the aircraft are correctly calculated to stay in the centre of gravity within the limits.

• Stress engineer
  You perform engineering duties in designing, constructing and testing aircraft, missiles and spacecraft. You use basic and applied research to evaluate the adaptability of materials and equipment to aircraft design and manufacturing. You are also the one to recommend improvements in testing equipment and techniques.
