Business Innovation (EN) fulltime

“I learned various new concepts in Design, Business, and Innovation.”

Chi-Kong Ng

Chi-Kong Ng was part of the first BI cohort and graduated in 2019. Originally studying abroad in the US, he concluded that the balance between tuition fees and the quality of education in the Netherlands was superb. Chi-Kong: “The Business Innovation curriculum at Inholland was the one I had the most predilection for, aligning with my goals at the time.”

How did you get on with the programme?
“I enjoyed the programme very much as I was able to get knocked out of my comfort zone in a safe environment and learn various new concepts in Design, Business, and Innovation. I had the chance to do a lot of the work in a group setting and hence learned how to play nice with others; a reflection of how most projects are governed in the professional world.”

How did the International character of the programme fit you?
“The BI programme offered a unique learning experience by facilitating taking elective courses focused on specific topics. For example, I took a Mandarin class and to this day I still use some of the phrases I took away from that course.”

Did you get many opportunities for practical experience?
“For sure, working in groups, working on various real-life use cases, coming up with solutions to real problems, and writing and presenting these findings to professionals was spot on in relation to my current experience in the professional world.”

How did your career evolve after graduation?
“Thanks to amazing advice from a certain person, I managed to find my current career path. The BI programme furthermore prepared me for the professional world. I learned various soft skills. I believe these were called meta-skills during my time in the Business Innovation programme: writing reports, understanding client briefs, self-reflection, and presenting. These skills currently align very well with my hard skills and make me a well-rounded professional.”

What is the best thing about your current job position?
“The best thing is that I am part of a team that can offer recommendations and solutions to our clients on how to innovate, as well as take part in implementing solutions and recommendations.”

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
“Only time will tell, however, hopefully, I will become a competent engineer and live up to the meaning of the word engineer. For me, an engineer is a creative problem-solver who combines scientific principles, technical knowledge, and innovative thinking to design, develop, and implement practical solutions that improve the world we live in.”

Any heartfelt do's and don’ts for future students?
“Have fun in the BI programme, and don’t be afraid to take a chance on something out of your comfort zone. Fail early, fail often, but always fail forward!”
